I think it could be said that this discussion's run its course. I'll have a seperate thread for testing this, once we get that far.
Judging the consensus and the technical possibilities, I'm going to implement it (at the start) as chunks of up to 25 XP every heartbeat, and not worry about loss on crashes.
The script when I'm happy with it will be made public, but I will leave interpretation to others, and not have in game explanations.
