Closed Discussion: Challenge Ratings in Descriptions
Closed Discussion: Challenge Ratings in Descriptions
Pretty simple one, so I'm making a poll attached to this, though feel free to put forth arguments in the discussion if you so wish!
By default "challenge rating" is included in the examined description of creatures - including players. Since this can be used to suss out meta information that is a players level, it is disabled many other places. The toggle is binary - there is no way to make it only apply to creatures (short of reimplementing the whole thing ourselves, of course).

Re: Open Discussion: Challenge Ratings in Descriptions
Hard no on this, While it would be neat to have it be a Lore check to get that information for NPCs I think just removing it entirely is best.

I'll leave the poll open for the week and go with where we're at after that.

Re: Open Discussion: Challenge Ratings in Descriptions
Not a fan of the Challenge Rating system as a concept; it's extremely nebulous and not good information to most players. It often just misleads people into assuming a given enemy is either far too strong or far too weak, when the inverse is true. Likewise, I see no possible way to accurately depict what a PC's challenge rating would be, relative to another player. A level 10 Fighter is a radically different opponent to a level 10 Wizard, and both of those are going to be completely different challenges to overcome based on your own class, prep time, equipment, etc.

Yeah I tend to agree myself. Since we have consensus I think, I'll apply this the next time I restart the server. It's just a setting.

Re: Closed Discussion: Challenge Ratings in Descriptions
Also to note with this is NWNs "Challenge Rating" Calculations are to put it mildly a bit bad. Which I'd argue is another reason to obsfucate them. Cause they don't really explain how hard something is to fight anyway, Especially with any custom systems added on.

I will remove this setting when I push 0.1.9, never to trouble us with its gross innacuracy again

These should be disabled now, let me know if they resurface.
